Adams County announced today that the Board of Commissioners has appointed Christy Dowling, Alan Hale, Wayne Walvoord, and Tim Ferrell to the District Plan Commission. One vacancy remains unfilled. This newly created commission will help the City of Brighton and Adams County implement the District Plan, and the first meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 3 p.m. at Brighton City Hall, 500 S. 4th Ave. The District Plan Commission will be comprised of nine members, five appointed by Adams County and four by the City of Brighton.
The District Plan was jointly adopted by Adams County and the City of Brighton in April 2016. The plan outlines several implementation activities, including the establishment of a shared commission to help guide the implementation of the District Plan’s activities, such as promoting continued agricultural land and agritourism uses, food production, marketing, and education.
“We are honored to continue our partnership with the City of Brighton to promote agritourism, agriculture, and prime farmland preservation,” said Adams County Board of Commissioners Chair Eva J. Henry. “We are taking another large step forward in implementing our shared District Plan with the joint appointment of members to the District Plan Commission.”
“The District Plan Commission will help the city and county prioritize and undertake a long list of action items that range from marketing and promotion, innovative and sustainable farming, ag education, tourism, and promoting local food systems,” said Abel Montoya, Adams County Long Range Strategic Planning director. “The broad range of expertise from the commission will be invaluable.”
The District Plan’s boundary includes the area generally bounded by Bromley Lane on the north, Buckley Road on the east, E-470 along the south, and the South Platte River corridor on the west, and serves as a comprehensive planning document for both the county and the City of Brighton.
