Adams County will celebrate National Adoption Day by finalizing 12 adoptions on Friday, Nov. 17, with a special celebration at the Adams County Justice Center, 1100 Judicial Center Dr., Brighton,, from 9 a.m.–noon. The Board of County Commissioners, Human Services Department, and the 17th Judicial District will host the adoptive families for a beach-themed event. Adams County has finalized more than 117 adoptions through October, and projects a total of 150 adoptions to be finalized by the end of the year.
“Since 2005, we have participated in National Adoption Day to celebrate and honor the adoptive families who currently serve the children of Adams County,” said Eva Henry, Adams County Board of Commissioners Chair. “Out of the 64 counties in the state of Colorado, we receive one of the highest rankings for the number of adoptions finalized per year, and we are proud to make dreams come true for the hundreds of children in our foster care system.”
From its inception in 2000, National Adoption Day has grown from nine events in its first year to more than 400 events in 2016 with nearly 65,000 adoptions finalized across the United States. This national and collective effort helps to raise awareness of the more than 100,000 children waiting for forever homes.
