Jeff Maxwell, Adams County Transportation director, was honored on a national level by the Society of Women Engineers, receiving their Integrity Award for Male Supporter of the Year. In addition to increasing the number of women engineers being hired, Maxwell appointed the county’s first female engineering manager who oversees a team of women engineers who manage the county’s Transportation Capital Improvement Program.
“Jeff has created an environment that supports women engineers’ full participation and acceptance in the engineering field,” said Eva J. Henry, Adams County Board of Commissioners chair. “Leaders like Jeff make it possible to remain a catalyst for change as we work together to empower women throughout the industry and in the community.”
“It’s an honor to receive recognition for providing an inclusive environment for women in engineering to thrive and inspire others, and I want to encourage others to become advocates and to embrace the success of women in the engineering field,” said Maxwell.
Maxwell has worked for Adams County for three years and manages more than 95 full-time employees.

Gov. Polis Orders Flags Lowered to Honor Passing of Former Rep. Val Vigil
DENVER - Gov. Jared Polis ordered flags lowered to half-staff on all public buildings statewide for Thursday, February 18, from sunrise to sunset to honor the passing of former Colorado Representative Val Vigil.
Rep. Vigil (D-Thorton) served four terms in the Colorado House from 1999 to 2006 and is known for his legacy of promoting higher education opportunities for students across Colorado. Rep. Vigil’s lasting impact on Colorado is his work to pass the ASSET Bill (SB13-033) which grants in-state tuition to undocumented students.
County Granted Extension for Small Business Relief Program to Offer More Financial Assistance During COVID-19

Gov. Polis Orders Flags Lowered to Honor Passing of Westminster Fire Department Captain David Sagel
DENVER - Gov. Jared Polis ordered flags lowered to half-staff on all public buildings statewide tomorrow, January 29, from sunrise to sunset to honor Captain David Sagel of the Westminster Fire Department.
Captain Sagel leaves behind his wife, Pam, and his two sons, Spenser and Austin. At 54 years old, Captain Sagel died from work-related abdominal cancer. Captain Sagel courageously battled his cancer diagnosis for more than a year.
Adams County Community Partner Seeks Signatures for Petition to Create a Group Special License Plate
Foster Source, a community partner of Adams County Human Services, is collecting signatures in favor of a group special license plate to promote foster awareness and to aid in recruitment for foster parents in Colorado.
Adams County Commissioner Charles “Chaz” Tedesco is a strong supporter of this initiative and has worked closely with Foster Source on many projects. This initiative also has the full support of the entire Adams County Board of Commissioners.
Eva J. Henry Elected Chair of Board of County Commissioners for 2021
The Adams County Board of Commissioners today unanimously elected Eva J. Henry as board chair for 2021. Henry was elected to the board in 2012, 2016, and 2020 for her third and final term representing District 1. Henry previously served as board chair in 2013 and 2017.
Adams County, Platte Valley Medical Center Partner for Vaccination Clinic at Government Center in Brighton
Adams County and Platte Valley Medical Center have partnered to open a COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the Adams County Government Center Conference Center, 4430 S. Adams County Pkwy., Brighton.
The clinic is open by appointment only, to those age 70 and over. No walk-ins will be accepted. Pre-registration is required. Information on the registration process is provided below.
Adams County Launches 5 Star Certification Program to Help Local Businesses Reopen Safely
As part of its COVID-19 emergency response and recovery strategy, Adams County will help spur economic activity that has been limited due to COVID-19 restrictions and indoor capacity limits through the launch of the Maintain & Sustain Adams – 5 Star Certification Program.
