Just in time for the holidays, National Adoption Day on Saturday, Nov. 19, marked a new beginning for 12 children in Adams County. Chief Judge Patrick T. Murphy gathered the families for a carnival-themed celebration before they finalized their adoptions.
“This was an exciting day for the families who finalized their adoptions, and it also served as a good reminder for the many kids in Adams County and across Colorado who are looking for their forever homes every day,” said Commissioner Charles “Chaz” Tedesco. “As our 11th annual observation of National Adoption Day, we are proud to participate to give these kids something they deserve, and we hope to continue to spread this awareness for many years to come.”
As part of the celebration, this was also an opportunity to recognize other Adams County children/youth who are waiting for a permanent home. Adams County has approximately 30 children waiting for an adoptive home at any given time, and in the state of Colorado, there are more than 280 kids who are waiting for an adoptive family.

Colorado Master Gardener Fall 2017 Program
The Colorado Master Gardener program in Adams County is accepting applications for fall 2017 evening classes. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6–9 p.m., Sept. 26–Nov. 30. Master Gardeners are part of the outreach program of Colorado State University Extension; a statewide network including Master Gardeners and CSU faculty and staff who provide lifelong educational programs for all Coloradans in their local communities using research-based information.

Suncor to Conduct Live Fire Training
NOTICE: Suncor Emergency Response Team will be conducting live fire training on Thursday, July 13, 5-10 p.m. The live fire training will be conducted at the Plant 1 Fire Training grounds. During the training, there will likely be large flames and thick smoke produced. In the event of an actual emergency, all ERT training will cease and proper alarms will be sounded. Barr Lake Appreciation Day - July 15
Barr Lake State Park will host Lake Appreciation Day from 8 a.m.–3 p.m. on Saturday, July 15. The park encourages residents to bring family, friends, groups, and co-workers for volunteer clean-up projects from 8–11 a.m., with a barbecue lunch at 11:30 a.m., followed by fun activities, including canoe instruction, archery demonstrations, face painting, a jumping castle, boat rides, climbing wall, and more. The state park entry fee is waived for participating volunteers, and RSVP is required.

Plant Alarm Drill at Suncor Today
NOTICE: Suncor will be holding a plant alarm drill on Thursday, June 29, at the Suncor Refinery Plant 1 Fire Training Grounds at 1 p.m. The plant alarm will sound signaling the start of the drill, so there will be two alarms today - one at noon for Suncor's standard alarm test, then again at 1 p.m. to mark the beginning of the drill. This is not an emergency situation. If an actual emergency occurs during this time, Suncor will cease the drill.
