Adams County marked the commencement of new terms for seven elected officials and six judges in an Inauguration Ceremony on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Riverdale Regional Park. Residents, employees, and family and friends filled the Waymire Dome to watch the proceedings.
“This past year marked the 120th anniversary residents voted to approve the creation of Adams County. Since that time, historic strides have been made. We have grown to a county of over 520,000 residents and have been recognized as a majority-minority county after the last census cycle,” said Board of County Commissioners Chair Lynn Baca. “Today is also an historic and momentous occasion as we come together to recognize and support the individuals who have been elected to lead and serve our county. With the deepest gratitude, thank you to all of our elected officials for answering the call to public service, to be a collaborator, an ambassador, but most importantly, to do the work of this great county we call home.”
The following elected officials took the oath of office to begin new four-year terms:
- Emma Pinter, County Commissioner District 3
- Steve O’Dorisio, County Commissioner District 4
- Ken Musso, Assessor
- Josh Zygielbaum, Clerk and Recorder
- Monica Broncucia-Jordan, Coroner
- Gene Claps, Sheriff
- Alex Villagran, Treasurer
Claps and Villagran were newly elected, and Pinter, O’Dorisio, Musso, Zygielbaum, and Broncucia-Jordan were re-elected.

Colorado Master Gardener Fall 2017 Program
The Colorado Master Gardener program in Adams County is accepting applications for fall 2017 evening classes. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6–9 p.m., Sept. 26–Nov. 30. Master Gardeners are part of the outreach program of Colorado State University Extension; a statewide network including Master Gardeners and CSU faculty and staff who provide lifelong educational programs for all Coloradans in their local communities using research-based information.
Governor Orders Flags Lowered for South Metro Firefighter Mike Freeman
Gov. Hickenlooper ordered flags lowered to half-staff on Friday, July 21, 2017, on all public buildings statewide in memory of South Metro Firefighter Engineer Mike Freeman. Flags should be lowered from sunrise to sunset.

Suncor to Conduct Live Fire Training
NOTICE: Suncor Emergency Response Team will be conducting live fire training on Thursday, July 13, 5-10 p.m. The live fire training will be conducted at the Plant 1 Fire Training grounds. During the training, there will likely be large flames and thick smoke produced. In the event of an actual emergency, all ERT training will cease and proper alarms will be sounded. Barr Lake Appreciation Day - July 15
Barr Lake State Park will host Lake Appreciation Day from 8 a.m.–3 p.m. on Saturday, July 15. The park encourages residents to bring family, friends, groups, and co-workers for volunteer clean-up projects from 8–11 a.m., with a barbecue lunch at 11:30 a.m., followed by fun activities, including canoe instruction, archery demonstrations, face painting, a jumping castle, boat rides, climbing wall, and more. The state park entry fee is waived for participating volunteers, and RSVP is required.

Plant Alarm Drill at Suncor Today
NOTICE: Suncor will be holding a plant alarm drill on Thursday, June 29, at the Suncor Refinery Plant 1 Fire Training Grounds at 1 p.m. The plant alarm will sound signaling the start of the drill, so there will be two alarms today - one at noon for Suncor's standard alarm test, then again at 1 p.m. to mark the beginning of the drill. This is not an emergency situation. If an actual emergency occurs during this time, Suncor will cease the drill.
