Gov. John Hickenlooper ordered flags lowered to half-staff on Monday, Nov. 7, on all public buildings statewide in memory of Cimarron Hills Firefighter Jermaine Frye. Flags should be lowered from sunrise to sunset.
Frye, 31, died on October 29 following an injury he sustained during training in the Colorado Springs area. Frye is survived by his fiancée Megan who is expecting, and family members. Frye volunteered as a firefighter while still in high school with the Woodmen Valley Volunteer Fire Department, followed by the Falcon Fire Department and the Cimarron Hills Fire Department. He later worked as an EMT for American Medical Response and as a firefighter/paramedic with the Aurora Fire Department. He joined the Cimarron Hills Fire Department in 2015. Frye deployed as a firefighter with the Department of Homeland Security to assist with search and rescue efforts during Hurricane Katrina and Rita. He also received the Medal of Honor and an in-person recognition from President Obama for his role as a first-responder during the 2012 theater shooting in Aurora.
Services will be held on Monday, Nov. 7, at 11:00 a.m. at New Life Church, 11025 Voyager Pkwy in Colorado Springs. The family asks that attendees wear purple or Denver Broncos attire in remembrance of Firefighter Frye.

Colorado Master Gardener Fall 2017 Program
The Colorado Master Gardener program in Adams County is accepting applications for fall 2017 evening classes. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6–9 p.m., Sept. 26–Nov. 30. Master Gardeners are part of the outreach program of Colorado State University Extension; a statewide network including Master Gardeners and CSU faculty and staff who provide lifelong educational programs for all Coloradans in their local communities using research-based information.

Suncor to Conduct Live Fire Training
NOTICE: Suncor Emergency Response Team will be conducting live fire training on Thursday, July 13, 5-10 p.m. The live fire training will be conducted at the Plant 1 Fire Training grounds. During the training, there will likely be large flames and thick smoke produced. In the event of an actual emergency, all ERT training will cease and proper alarms will be sounded. Barr Lake Appreciation Day - July 15
Barr Lake State Park will host Lake Appreciation Day from 8 a.m.–3 p.m. on Saturday, July 15. The park encourages residents to bring family, friends, groups, and co-workers for volunteer clean-up projects from 8–11 a.m., with a barbecue lunch at 11:30 a.m., followed by fun activities, including canoe instruction, archery demonstrations, face painting, a jumping castle, boat rides, climbing wall, and more. The state park entry fee is waived for participating volunteers, and RSVP is required.

Plant Alarm Drill at Suncor Today
NOTICE: Suncor will be holding a plant alarm drill on Thursday, June 29, at the Suncor Refinery Plant 1 Fire Training Grounds at 1 p.m. The plant alarm will sound signaling the start of the drill, so there will be two alarms today - one at noon for Suncor's standard alarm test, then again at 1 p.m. to mark the beginning of the drill. This is not an emergency situation. If an actual emergency occurs during this time, Suncor will cease the drill.
