Sustainable Adams County has partnered with CSU Extension to educate Adams County residents on rainwater collection systems. This is an opportunity for residents to learn the facts, become familiar with the environmental benefits of rain harvesting, and leave armed with the tools and knowledge to become a successful contributor to conservation in Adams County.

The $50 registration fee covers the educational workshop and the free rain barrel kit. A limited number of registrations are available; one rain barrel per household will be distributed. Effective as of Aug. 10, Gov. John Hickenlooper signed House Bill 1005 allowing the legalization of rain barrel collection in Colorado. A maximum of two rain barrels—with a combined capacity of 110 gallons—can be installed at single-family or multi-family households. Approving the use of rain barrels in Colorado allows for residents to capture rainwater from rooftop downspouts and use the collected water to irrigate outdoor lawns, plants or gardens.

Colorado Master Gardener Fall 2017 Program
The Colorado Master Gardener program in Adams County is accepting applications for fall 2017 evening classes. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6–9 p.m., Sept. 26–Nov. 30. Master Gardeners are part of the outreach program of Colorado State University Extension; a statewide network including Master Gardeners and CSU faculty and staff who provide lifelong educational programs for all Coloradans in their local communities using research-based information.

Suncor to Conduct Live Fire Training
NOTICE: Suncor Emergency Response Team will be conducting live fire training on Thursday, July 13, 5-10 p.m. The live fire training will be conducted at the Plant 1 Fire Training grounds. During the training, there will likely be large flames and thick smoke produced. In the event of an actual emergency, all ERT training will cease and proper alarms will be sounded. Barr Lake Appreciation Day - July 15
Barr Lake State Park will host Lake Appreciation Day from 8 a.m.–3 p.m. on Saturday, July 15. The park encourages residents to bring family, friends, groups, and co-workers for volunteer clean-up projects from 8–11 a.m., with a barbecue lunch at 11:30 a.m., followed by fun activities, including canoe instruction, archery demonstrations, face painting, a jumping castle, boat rides, climbing wall, and more. The state park entry fee is waived for participating volunteers, and RSVP is required.

Plant Alarm Drill at Suncor Today
NOTICE: Suncor will be holding a plant alarm drill on Thursday, June 29, at the Suncor Refinery Plant 1 Fire Training Grounds at 1 p.m. The plant alarm will sound signaling the start of the drill, so there will be two alarms today - one at noon for Suncor's standard alarm test, then again at 1 p.m. to mark the beginning of the drill. This is not an emergency situation. If an actual emergency occurs during this time, Suncor will cease the drill.
