Mandy McCormick - 2019 Adams County Fair Lady-in-Waiting

Congratulations to the 2019 Adams County Fair Lady-in-Waiting, Mandy McCormick. This is our first sister-sister royalty, as Mandy's sister, Danielle McCormick, was the 2012 Adams County Fair Queen.

Congratulations to all who participated. It's going to be an exciting and full year ahead!

Work-Based Learning Expo – Sept. 27

If you know young adults between the ages of 14-24 looking to get their foot in the door for a great career, have them join the Adams County Workforce & Business Center for the Work-Based Learning Expo on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2-5 p.m., at the Adams County Human Services Center, 11860 N. Pecos St., Westminster. A variety of employers will be present to talk about apprenticeships, internships, and volunteer opportunities. For more information, call 720.523.2400.

Gummball 5K Run and Walk – Oct. 7

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office and Adams County Sheriff’s Foundation are hosting the Gummball 5K Run and Walk in honor of fallen Deputy Heath Gumm on Sunday, Oct. 7, 9 a.m., at Riverdale Regional Park, 9755 Henderson Rd., Brighton. Registration is $30, 12 and under are free. Register at www.itsyourrace.com.  Volunteers are also needed to help with various aspects of the race - sign up to volunteer.

Construction at Railroad Crossings This Week

All lanes on 80th Ave. near Monaco St. will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to approximately 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, due to construction on the Union Pacific Railroad line. Detour route signs will direct traffic around the construction site. Please plan to take an alternate route on Wednesday to avoid delays.

In addition, there will be flaggers at various railroad crossings along Highway 85 from 104th Ave. to Bromley Lane today through Sunday, Sept. 30, due to railroad line construction. There may be some traffic delays in both directions along these streets during construction.

The Adams County Foundation is hosting a 1980s prom-themed fundraiser on Friday, Oct. 19, 6:30 p.m., at the Waymire Dome at Riverdale Regional Park, 9755 Henderson Rd., Brighton. Tickets are $75 per person - your ticket will also provide you with a meal and two beverages of your choice. Come dance the night away as "That 80's Band" helps you party like it was 1985!

Suncor Refinery Flare Work - Sept. 24

Beginning Monday, Sept. 24, Suncor will conduct work on one of the flare units at the Commerce City refinery. This planned work will allow Suncor to comply with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulatory requirements under the Refinery Sector Rule that goes into effect Jan. 30, 2019.

Telephone Town Hall

Over 2,000 Adams County residents dialed in to the Board of Commissioners’ telephone town hall on Tuesday, Sept. 18, to air their views and concerns on issues such as parking, open space, and road maintenance.

Commissioner Eva Henry thanked the participants on the call and their involvement in their county government. “Adams County encompasses a huge area,” she said. “If you have an issue, don’t assume we already know. Contact us and let us know what’s going on so we can help.”

Safe disposal keeps meds like opioids, sedatives, and stimulants from being misused or abused. It also helps protect Colorado’s precious environment and wildlife.

All lanes in both directions on 120th Ave. at Highway 85 will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to approximately 5:30 p.m. tomorrow, Sept. 13, due to construction on the Union Pacific Railroad line. Highway 85 will remain open for the duration of construction, and a detour route with signs will direct traffic around the construction site. Please plan to take an alternate route on Thursday to avoid delays.
